ARBOR VIEW FAMILY MEDICINE, Inc. LAUNCHES EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

TO HIGHLIGHT JUNE’S NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH ON FACEBOOK

LANCASTER, OH, June 3, 2014-Injuries are a leading cause of disability for people of all ages – and they are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 44. But many injuries can be prevented when people practice safe behaviors.

The National Safety Council is using National Safety Month to bring to light the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S., unintentional injuries. The top three contributing causes being, prescription drug abuse, cell phone use while driving and falls. Seven out of every ten falls are attributed to our most senior citizens, those age seventy four and older.

NSC president and CEO, Deborah Hersman, points out that American’s may be worrying about the wrong things. “Dramatic events like homicides and natural disasters headline the news every night,” said Deborah Hersman, NSC president and CEO. “Highlighting that hundreds of people are dying each day from completely preventable causes – that is what National Safety Month is all about.”

“These statistics are not just numbers, they are our family members,” said Hersman. “This year’s National Safety Month theme, Safety: it takes all of us, is a call for everyone to make simple changes to prevent tragedy in your home or car. Properly store your medications, put down your phone when you drive and use slip-resistant mats on your floors. These small changes can make a huge difference.”

Arborview Family Medicine, Inc. will be highlighting National Safety Month and recommended prevention tips from the National Safety Council on their Facebook Page during the month of June to remind all about the importance of prevention when it comes to avoiding accidents.
